Documentary Screening: ‘Residual’ Citizens

December 24th, 2009, Ankara 

 

TESEV Democratization Program screened the documentary film entitled ‘residual’ citizens in Ankara. The screening took place on December 24th, 2009 at the Middle Eastern Technical University and was followed by a talk with the participation of Şehbal Şenyurt,  the director of the documentary.

International Workshop: Turkey - Armenia Dialogue Series: “Assessing the Rapprochement Process”
December 17th, 2009, Yerevan

The Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation’s (TESEV) Foreign Policy Program organized a workshop in Yerevan on December 17th, 2009 in collaboration with the Yerevan based think tank the Caucasus Institute. The workshop represents the second leg of its “Turkey-Armenia Dialogue Series: Assessing the Rapprochement Process” – the first having taken place on November 16th, 2009 in Istanbul. The participants partook in two sessions which addressed the current state of affairs in Turkish-Armenian relations and the impact of context and region on the Turkish-Armenian Rapprochement.

Roundtable Meeting: "Turkey's New Diplomatic Activism and the Middle East"
December 12th, 2009, İstanbul 

TESEV Foreign Policy Program hosted a roundtable meeting on 12 December 2009 called “Turkey’s new diplomatic activism and the Middle East”.  The meeting was attended by civil society members, academics, politicians and journalists from the region, Europe and Turkey. Following the presentation of TESEV’s new report “The perception of Turkey in the Middle East”, the participants partook in three sessions which addressed Turkish-Arab relations, Turkey’s role in peace building in the region and the extent to which Turkey constitutes a soft power.

International Conference: VI. Bosphorus Conference
16-17 October 2009

Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV), The British Council, and Delegation of the European Commission to Turkey jointly organised the sixth the Bosphorus Conference.  The Bosphorus Conference VI titled “Turkey and the EU: Regaining Momentum” focused mainly on the current state of EU – Turkey relations, ‘Belonging, Layered Identity and the European project’, Europe’s Global Challenges and Strategic co-operation’ and ‘Outlook for Europe and Turkey’. Egemen Bağış, Pierre Lellouche, Mehmet Simsek and Olli Rehn were among the key note speakers.

New Publication: Feasibility Study for a Broader Middle East and North Africa Gender Institute

Turkish Economic and Social Studies Foundation (TESEV) has published a feasibility study recommending the establishment of a regional institute to work on issues      related to the empowerment of women in the Broader Middle East and North Africa region (BMENA). The report is based on data collected in two civil society symposia in Istanbul and two regional civil society workshops in Amman and Algiers and it is further based upon a collected set of interviews with regional stakeholders, conducted by the TESEV Foreign Policy Program between 2005 and 2009.
